Christ our Passover.

CHRIST, our Passover, for us

Is offer'd up and slain !
Let him be remember'd thus
By every soul of man:
We are bound above the rest
His oblation to proclaim;
Keep we then the solemn feast,
The banquet of the Lamb,

Jesus, master of the feast,

The feast itself thou art;
Now receive each humble guest,

And comfort every heart;
Give us living bread to eat;

Manna, that from heav'n came down ;

Fill us with immortal meat,

And make thy nature known,

In this barren wilderness
Thou hast a table spread,
Furnish'd out with ample grace,
Whate'er our souls can need:
Still sustain us by thy love,

Still thy servants' strength repair,
Till we reach thy courts above,
And feast for ever there.

Humble Intercession.

LAMB of God, whose bleeding love

We thus recal to mind,
Send an answer from above,
And let us mercy find:
Think on us, who think on thee,
And ev'ry struggling soul release;
O remember Calvary,

And bid us go in peace.

By thine agonizing pain,

And bloody sweat, we pray,
By thy dying love to man,

Take all our sins away.
Burst our bonds and set us free,
From all iniquity release;

O! remember Calvary,

And bid us go in peace.

Let thy blood, by faith apply'd,
Each sinner's pardon seal ;
Speak us freely justified,

And all our sickness heal:
By thy passion on the tree,

Let all our griefs and troubles cease;

O remember Calvary,

And bid us go in peace.

Reflections on the Sufferings of Christ.

ALAS! and did my Saviour bleed ?

And did my Sov'reign die? Would he devote that sacred head For such a worm as I?

Was it for crimes that I had done,
He groan'd upon the tree?
Amazing pity, grace unknown,
And love beyond degree?

[ocr errors]

Well might the sun in darkness hide
And shut his glories in,

When God the mighty Maker died
For man the creature's sin.

Thus might I hide my blushing face, While his dear cross appears; Dissolve my heart in thankfulness, And melt my eyes to tears.

But drops of grief can ne'er repay
The debt of love I owe:

Here, Lord, I give myself away,
'Tis all that I can do.

A Hymn of Praise to the Trinity.

LESS'D be the FATHER, and his love

To whose celestial source we owe Rivers of endless joy above,

And rills of comfort here below,

Glory to thee, great Son of God, From whose dear wounded body rolls A precious stream of vital blood, Pardon and life for dying souls.

We give the sacred SPIRIT praise, Who, in our hearts of sin and woe, Makes springs of heav'nly graces rise, And into bouudless glory flow,

Thus God the Father, God the Son, And God the spirit we adore ; That sea of life and love unknown, Without a bottom, or a shore,
