not heard, but which Thou hast prepared for them that love Thee.

9. O sweet JESUS, receive me into Thine arms in my distress; bathe my soul in Thy Blood; create in me a clean heart, and renew a right spirit within me.

10. O LORD, for Thy sake I forgive all who have ever offended me, as I hope to be forgiven by Thee. 11. GOD be merciful to me a sinner.

12. Have mercy upon me, O GOD, after Thy great goodness; according to the multitude of Thy mercies, do away mine offences.

13. O that I had never offended so good a GOD; would that I had always preserved my Baptismal innocence! I renounce the world, the flesh, and the devil; I desire to renew my Baptismal covenant, and to remain Thy soldier and servant until my life's end.

14. I commend my soul to God the FATHER, Who created me; to God the SON, Who redeemed me; to GOD the HOLY GHOST, Who sanctifieth me. Into Thy hands I commend my spirit, for Thou hast redeemed me, O LORD, Thou GOD of Truth.

IN SUFFERING.

LORD JESUS, accept my sufferings, which I desire to unite with Thine; sanctify these afflictions to my soul, so that the pain of body I suffer may bring me nearer Thee. O fill me with such love towards Thee, that for Thy sake I may rejoice to be conformed to Thine image in suffering, and to be made like unto Thee; come to my help, and fill me with that love which casteth out fear. Oh! how light are my sufferings compared with Thine, and Thou didst of Thine own love bear all for me, a most miserable sinner. O LORD, help me; let me never be separated from Thee; give me strength to bear all for Thee. Amen.

Anima Christi.

Soul of CHRIST, sanctify me;
Body of CHRIST, save me;
Blood of CHRIST, refresh me;

Water from the side of CHRIST, wash me;
Passion of CHRIST, strengthen me.
O good JESU, hear me,

Within Thy wounds hide me,

Suffer me not to be separated from Thee.
From the malicious enemy defend me,
In the hour of my death call me,

And bid me come unto Thee,

That with Thy saints I may praise Thee
To all eternity. Amen.

UR FATHER, etc.

SAVIOUR of the world, Who by Thy Cross and precious Blood hast redeemed me, save me and

help me, I humbly beseech Thee, O LORD.

LITANY FOR USE IN SICKNESS.

GOD the FATHER of Heaven, have mercy upon me a miserable sinner.

O GOD the SON, Redeemer of the world, have mercy upon me a miserable sinner.

O GOD the Holy Ghost, proceeding from the FATHER and the Son, have mercy upon me a miserable sinner.

O Holy, Blessed, and Glorious Trinity, three Persons and one God, have mercy upon me a miserable sinner. O Thou Who didst take upon Thee our Flesh, and didst become subject to suffering and sorrow,

Have mercy upon me.

Thou Who didst raise the daughter of Jairus from the bed of death, the widow's son from the bier, Lazarus from the tomb,

Have mercy upon me.

Thou Who didst bear our infirmities and heal our sicknesses,

Have mercy upon me.

Thou Who didst become obedient to death, even the death of the Cross,

Have mercy upon me. Thou Who didst first breathe into man the breath of life, and hast appointed the hour of my death,

Have mercy upon me. I, Thine unworthy servant, beseech Thee, hear me. That, dying unto sin here, I may live unto Thee in heaven,

Good JESU, hear me.

That, abiding Thy faithful soldier and servant here, I may receive the crown hereafter,

Good JESU, hear me.

That I may cheerfully submit to all the suffering of sickness and death, as the just penalty of my sin, Good JESU, hear me. That Thou wilt be with me in the dark valley of the shadow of death,

Good JESU, hear me.

That Thou wouldst not suffer me in my last hour for any pains of death to fall from Thee,

Good JESU, hear me. That Thou wouldst forgive me all my sins, and strengthen my fainting soul with the Bread of life,

Good JESU, hear me. That Thou wouldst enable me to close my eyes in Thy faith and fear, in the sure and certain hope of the resurrection to eternal life,

Good JESU, hear me.

Deliver me, O Lord, in my last hour, as Thou didst deliver Enoch and Elijah from the common doom.

So save and deliver me.

As Thou didst deliver Noah from the flood,

So save and deliver me.

As Thou didst deliver Job from his sufferings,

So save and deliver me.

As Thou didst deliver Isaac from the uplifted knife,

So save and deliver me.

As Thou didst deliver Lot from Sodom,

So save and deliver me.

As Thou didst deliver the children of Israel from Pharaoh,

So save and deliver me. As Thou didst deliver Daniel from the den of lions, So save and deliver me. As Thou didst deliver the three children from the burning fiery furnace,

So save and deliver me.

As Thou hast ever delivered the souls of them who trust in Thee,

So save and deliver me.

Deliver me, O God, on that tremendous day when the heavens and the earth shall be moved, when Thou shalt come to judge the world by fire.

So save and deliver me.

When the judgment shall be set, and the book be opened; when the dead, small and great, stand before Thee.

O Lamb of GOD, that takest away the sins of the world,

Have mercy upon me.

O Lamb of GOD, that takest away the sins of the world,

Have mercy upon me.

O Lamb of GOD, that takest away the sins of the world,

UR FATHER, etc.

Grant me Thy peace.

LORD, hear my prayer, and let my cry come unto Thee.

Hear me, O LORD, and remember now the hour when Thou didst commend Thy Blessed Spirit into the hands of Thy Heavenly FATHER, when, with a torn body and broken heart, Thou didst show forth Thy mercy and unspeakable loving-kindness towards us miserable sinners. I beseech Thee, O Thou Brightness of the FATHER's glory, so to assist me by that Thy precious Death, that, dying unto this world, I may live unto Thee, and that at the last hour of my life Thou mayest receive me into the arms of Thy mercy, Who livest and reignest with the FATHER and the HOLY GHOST, one GOD, for ever and ever. Amen.

A COMMENDATORY PRAYER FOR A SOUL AT ITS
DEPARTURE.

ALMIGHTY GOD, with Whom do live the spirits of just men made perfect, after they are delivered from their earthly prisons, we humbly commend the soul of this Thy servant, our dear Brother, into Thy hands, as into the hands of a faithful Creator, and most merciful SAVIOUR; most humbly beseeching Thee, that it may be precious in Thy sight. Wash it, we pray Thee, in the Blood of that immaculate Lamb that was slain to take away the sins of the world, that whatsoever defilements it may have contracted in the midst of this miserable and naughty world, through the lusts of the flesh, or the wiles of Satan, being purged and done away, it may be presented pure and without spot before Thee. And teach us who survive, in this and other like daily spectacles of mortality, to see how frail and uncertain our own condition is, and so to number our days, that we may seriously apply our hearts to that holy and heavenly wisdom, whilst we live here, which may in the end bring bring us to life everlasting, through the merits of JESUS CHRIST, Thine only SON, our Lord. Amen.
