The Epistle. 1 John v. 4. THATSOEVER is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God? This is he that came by water and blood, even Jetus Chrift; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because, the Spirit is truth. For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Fathe the Word, and the Holy Ghoft: and these three are one. And there are three that bear witness in earth, the spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one. It we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God, which he hath teftified of his Son. He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God, hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternai life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son, hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God, hath not life.

The Gospel. John xx. 19. HE fame day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were affembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus, and stood in the midst, and faith unto them, Peace be unto you. And when he had fo faid, he thewed unto them his hands and his fide. Then were the difciples glad when they saw the Lord. Then faid Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath fent me, even fo fend I you. And when he had faid this, he

breathed on them, and faith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghoft. Whose soever fins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose foever fins ye retain, they are retained.

LMIGHTY God, who hast given thine only Son to be unto us both a facrifice for fin, and also an ensample of godly life; Give us grace, that we may always most thankfully receive that his inestimable benefit, and alfo daily endeavour ourselves to follow the bleffed steps of his most holy life, through the fame Jefus Christ our Lord. is thank-worthy, if a man for confcience toward God endure grief, fuffering wrongfully. For what glor yis it, if, when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and fuffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God. For even hereunto were ye called: because Chrift alfo fuffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps: who did no fin, neither was guile found in his mouth: who, when he wasreviled, reviled not again; when he fuffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteoufly: who his own self bare our fins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to fins should live unto righteousness: by whole ftripes ye were healed. For ye were as theep going aftray; but are now returned unto the Sh epherd and Bishop of your fouls. The Gospel. John x. 11. ESUS faid, I am the good the

giveth his life for the theep. But he that is an hireling, and not the thepherd, whose own the theep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth: and the wolf catchets them, and scattereth the theep. The hireling fleeth, becaute he Is an hireling, and careth not for the theep. I am the good thep herd, and know my theep, and am known of mine. As the Father knoweth me, even fo know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep. And other theep I have, which are not of this fold them alfo I must bring, and they shali hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd. Now I go my way to fent me; and none of you asketh me, Whither goest thou? But because I have faid these things unto you, forrow hath filled your heart. Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you but if I depart, I will fend him unto you. And when he is come, he will reprove the world of fin, and of righteousness, and of judgement: Of fin, because they believe not on me; Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; Of judgement, because the prince of this world is judged. I have yet many things to fay unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he thall not speak of himself; but whatioever he thall hear, that shall he speak: and he will thew you things to come. He shall glorify me: for he thall receive of mine, and thall shew it unto you. All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore faid I, that he thall take of mine, and thall thew it unto you.

The Epistle. 1 Pet. ii. 11. EARLY beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lufis, which war against the foul; having your converfation honeft among the Gentiles: that whereas they fpeak against you as evil doers, they may by your good works, which they thall belhold, glorify God in the day of vifita tion. Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord's fake whether it be to the King, as fupreme; or unto governors, as unto them that are fent by him for the punishment of evil doers, and for the praife of them that do well. For fo is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to filence the ignorance of foolish men: as free, and not using your liberty for a cloak of maliciouf

nefs, but as the fervants of Gud. Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the King.

The Gospel. John xvi. 16. ESUS faid to his difciples, A little while, and ye thall not fee me and again, A little while, and ye thall fee me; because I go

to the Father. Then faid fome of his difciples among themselves, What is this that he faith unto us, A little while, and ye shall not see me and again, A little while, and ye thall fee me: and, Because I go to the Father? They faid, therefore, What is this that he faith, A little while? We cannot tell what he faith. Now Jesus knew that they were defirous to atk him, and faid unto them, Do ye inquire among yourselves of that 1 faid, A little while, and ye shall not fee me: and again, A little while, and ye thall tee me? Verily, verily, I fay unto you, That ye shall weep and lament, but the world thall

rejoice: and ye thall be forrowiul, but your forrow shall be turned into joy. A woman when the is in travail hath forrow, becaufe her hour is come: but as foon as the is delivered of the child, the remembereth no more the an

guish, for joy that a man is born into the world. And ye now therefore have forrow: but I will fee you again, and your heart thall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you.

The Epiftle. James i. 22. E ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving

doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: for he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man thall be bleffed in his deed. If any man among you feem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain. Pure religion, and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To vifit the

The Gospel. John xvi. 23. ERILY, verily, I say unto ye shall afk

and ye shall receive, that your

joy may be full. These things have I spoken unto in verbs: but the time cometh when I thall no more fpeak unto you in proverbs, but I shalt thew you plainly of the Father. At that day ye shall afk in my name: and I fay not unto you, that I will pray the Father for you; for the Father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me, and have

believed that I came out from

God. I came forth from the Father, and am come into the world: again, I leave the world, and go to the Father. His difciples faid unto him, Lo, now speakest thou plainly, and speakeft no proverb. Now are we fure that thou knowest all things, and needeft not that any man should atk thee: by this we believe that thou cameft forth from God. Jesus answered them, Do ye now believe? Behold, the hour cometh, yea, is now come, that ye thall be scattered, every man to his own, and thall leave me alone: and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me. These

these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their fight. And while they looked stedfallly toward heaven, as he went up, behold, two men stood by thein in white apparel; which alfo faid, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? This fame Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall fo come in like manner as ye have feen him go into heaven.

The Gospel. Mark xvi. 14.

JESUS appeared unto the eleven as they meat, and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen. And he faid unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the Gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized fhall be faved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. And these signs thall follow them that believe: In my name thall they cast out devils; they shall fpeak with new tongues; they shall take up ferpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them, they thall lay hands on the fick, and they shall

former treatife have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jefus began both to do and teach, until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen: to whom alfo he shewed himself alive after his paffion by many infallible proofs, being feen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God: and, being recover. So then after the Lord affembled together with them, had spoken unto them, he was commanded them that they should not departfrom Jerufalem, but wait for the promife of the Father, which, faith he, ye have heard of me: for John truly baptized with water; but ye thall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence. When they therefore were come together, they atked of him, faying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Ifrael? And he faid unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the feafons which the Father hath put in his own power. But ye thall receive power, after that The Holy Ghoft is come upon you and ye thall be witnesses unto me both in Jerufalem, and In all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermoft part of the earth. The Ebistle. 1 Pet. iv. 7. HE end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore fober, and watch unto prayer. And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of fins. Ufe hofpitality one to another, without grudging. As every man hath received the gift, even fo minifter the fame one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. If any man speak, let him fpeak as the oracles of God; if any man minifter, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Chrift; to whom be praife and dominion for ever

These things have I spoken unto you, that ye should not be offended. They thall put you out of the fynagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God fervice. And these things will they do unto you, because they have not known the Father nor me. But there things have I told you, that, when the time shall come, ye may remember that I told you of them.

For the Epistle. Acts ii. 1. THEN the day of Pentecoft was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And fuddenly there came a found from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were fitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it fat upon each of them: and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to fpeak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. And there were dwelling at Jerufalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven. Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were cонfounded, because that every man heard them fpeak in his own language. And they were all amazed and marvelled, faying one to another, Behold, are not all thefe which speak Galileans? And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born? Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mefopotamia, and in Judea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Afia, Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and Profelytes, Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.

The Gospel. John xiv. 15. ESUS faid unto his disciples, If ye love me, keep my commandments. And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it feeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. I will not leave you comfortlets: I will come to you. Yet a little while, and the world feeth me no more; butye fee me: because I live, ye thall live also. At that day ye shall know, that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you. He that hath my commandments, and keepсів
